I am starting a project that will require me to draw multiple pictures of a car. In order to maintain consistency throughout the images, I made a model to use as a reference for drawing.
It is loosely based on a vintage Citreon Model “Deux.” Here are the steps I took to create it. I maybe obsessed on this a little bit…
One chunk of 2×4:
Cut to length and width:
Axles and wheels:
Routed out the wheel wells:
Cut the main curves and windshield slot:
Cut thin plywood (from a clementine box) into strips, soaked in hot water, and pressed onto molds for the fenders (this was the obsessive part):
Rough fender shapes:
Parts ready for assembly:
After starting to put the pieces together, I decide the wheelbase looks a little long:
So I cut a section out of the middle:
Added lights, bumpers and windshield (cut from a plastic container); Outlined edges with a sharpie; Ready to roll!
